Raporti i fundit i Institutit ndërkombëtar të Kërkimeve për Paqen, në Stokholm, tregon se nëpër botë, 1.73 trilionë dollarë u investuan për qëllime ushtarake gjatë vitit të kaluar, gjë që shënon rritje krahasuar me vitin 2016.
Fenomeni është më i ndjeshëm në Lindjen e Mesme. Shtatë prej 10 vendeve me nivelin më të lartë të shpenzimeve për armatime, krahasuar me produktin e tyre të brendshëm bruto, janë pikërisht nga ky rajon.
